No Wheels, No Whoop

The good news is that the Vandosa sold today, leaving only the still poor l'il unsold house. The bad news? Ribsy is sad to report that he won't be seeing all his whippet pals at Sunday's Whoop Up. With no wheels, it's impossible for them to get there. So if any whippet wants to meet up before February 28, which he has been told by Boy & Girl is an extremely significant day involving a jet plane and farewells, send a bark his way.

Snoods Magoo

A few pics from the weekend's snowy Whoop Up. A few whippets braved the cold, including Blitzen (though Ribsy missed seeing him there), Mani, Bonaparte (and his tiny pal Napoleon), Cougar and two greyhounds.

Here's Ribsy getting all excited and antsy about the whoop up. He shirked his coat but snood (hand-knitted with love by Linda) held up.

Ribsy's coat is a bit off-kilter and he wishes he had boots but they would probably get lost in the snow.

A good time was had in the good ol' snow!

Fan-tastic morning

A semi-sunny Sunday morning can only mean one thing for whippets and their people in Victoria - the Whippet Whoop Up!

Bobby, Princess Lucia the IG, James, Otto, Mani, and Tiger all braved the damp grass and puddles to run around, chase balls, sniff bums and beg for treats. Here is Ribsy demonstrating his Zoolander-like Magnum pose, guaranteed to earn yummies and break hearts.

Speaking of which, he met his biggest fan today - she came all the way from Toronto, leaving behind her own crew of whippets. OK, Ribsy admits, that's a slight exaggeration. It wasn't only because of him - he thinks they had family to visit and other things to do too. But when you get spoiled with a squeaky squirrel toy and a big box of organic dog biscuits, how can you not let that get to your pointy houndy head?

Ferryin' Whippets

A special hello and thank you to Henry the whippet, who's from Vancouver and came out to join the Whippet gang at the past Sunday meet-up.

And now, joining us in September, will be Cheeba who's moving to Victoria along with her owner! Check out the cuteness - and that tongue!

Welcome to the Whippet gang Cricket! She's Vickie and Sayla's new little sister - at five months old, she's ready to roll.

   

Weekly Whippet Meet-up Reminder

Ribsy has received a few requests from folks outside Victoria about the Whippet Whoop Up, so he thought he would re-cap some information for those interested in joining in on the fun.

Here's a link to the map - you'll want to park where the star is, on Cedar Hill Cross Road. There's a golf course on one side and Mystic Vale/the University of Victoria on the other. The main entrance is beside a large parking gate. The whippet gang meets up at 10am every Sunday morning.

Please note that we share the park with dogs of all shapes, sizes and temperaments, and while the social is fun, the hounds can get quite intense (you know, whippets whipped up into a whippet-chasing, neck-tasting, prey-foisting frenzy) so please always leash up your whippet and/or have your whippet under your control when non-whippets happen to wander in on our hound parties. Let's keep it fun for all the dogs!

Of course, don't get Ribsy wrong. Whippets aren't dangerous. Whoever thinks that is just plain bollocks. Oh, and check out these red potatoes with dill we had for dinner the other night. Very delicious.

Shady whippet

Peering out the window, Ribsy put on his Doggles and harness in anticipation of the warm sunshine-filled day ahead. Destination: Whippet Whoop Up. Roll Call: Blitzen, Max, Millie, Vicky, Sayla, James, Otto, Nitro and Derby. The good ol' gang. The houndy ten.

 

Plus here's a short movie clip - honestly, not too interesting, but for those of you thousands of miles away from whippet action, it might serve as a quick 7-second fix.

 

After an hour and a half of whippet hooliganism, it was back to the dogvertible. Who's the dork with the cool dog in the shades?

18 + grey + deer

Sunday's whippet meet up rounded up a herd of 18 whippets! Plus a grey and a deerhound.

The whippet roll call (hold your breath) - James, Otto, Blitzen, Ribsy, Vickie, Sayla, Max, Millie, Grande, Mickey, Lucky, Tattle, Ticket, Scott, Mani, Theo, Louis, and Bobby!

Maybe one day we can get all the whippets to hold still and take a group picture. What a squirrely idea.

Whippet Catch Up

Ribsy's attended the past couple of Whippet Whoop Ups at the beer littered disc golf park slash dog park, and there are a few new houndy puppy faces, including Blitzen, a 4-month-old jitterbug, and Ticket who hails from South Carolina, along with her sister Tattle. Skitter and Lucky are TNT's older 'sisters' in this busy four-whippet household.

      

Last Sunday Ribsy was reunited with his litter sister Fawn! A spunky pretty gal, she held her own against Ribsy and the other boys such as Max, Scott and Elvis.

 

Speaking of Scott, here's one last parting shot of him in action on Ticket before his next-day whippet snipping.

 

This morning Ribsy roared like a rocket chasing a frisbee around with Vickie and Sayla. Max and Millie also joined in on the romp, along with Blitzen, Ticket and Lucky.

Birthday Invitation

Vicki the Whippet will be twelve years great.  On behalf of her person Blair, all Whippets and their people are invited to join in the festive celebration on Sunday, August 14 at 10am, at Mystic Vale/UVic. There will be doggie games, beef cakes, people cake.
