Sofa So (Whippet) Good

Oh, all the funny links you get via Twitter.

Via @azulaco, Ribsy and Mirabel find out about a new sport: couch racing. Unfortunately they live in a 100% hardwood-floor house and their couch is pushed up against the wall and not in the middle of the room. So for now they'll have to speed vicariously through these manic racers.

Whippets Who Twitter

Ribsy has noticed that there are many whippets playing on the big field known as Twitter. Here are some, if you're thinking of running with the lot of 'em there:

@santyclaws (pictured) - The beautiful, beautiful Santos who lives in Vancouver and can rock any style. She may be young but she's feisty. Just the way Ribsy likes them.

@brindlewhippet - Still kind of newish on Twitter, Zepher lives with his older brother Reggie (an Italian greyhound) and pack in Nevada.

@WhippetsNiaSofi - The whippets Nia and Sofia! Not only do these delightful girls write a blog, but they tweet too.

@Bacchusboy - Yis! A handsome black whippet who hails from Wellington, New Zealand.

@WillieWhippet - Still learning how to write and spell and all that grammatical kind of stuff, but he tries really hard with his tweets. An all-out whippet effort.

@Holly315 - A spritely girl who lives in Connecticut. She must be busy chasing critters (it is squirrel hunting season, Ribsy s'poses) because she hasn't tweeted in a little while. Hey Holly, get your paws on the keyboard soon.

@BluBijou - Skylar is a girl whippet who knows who she is (a princess) and knows what she wants (anything her heart desires).

@WhippetRescue - Good folks who rescue whippets and greyhounds across Australia. Their new website is coming soon; in the meantime, you can keep up to date on hounds in need via their Twitter account.

@Timbreblue - Timbreblue Whippets is a breeder in Virginia. 

@RetroRepublik - Another Californian whippet, Fast Freddy is the chief executive dog of Retro Republik and has an eye for great design. His own fine lines served as the inspiration for Santa Barbara Bikes To-Go's company logo.

@flick_summer - Dazzling whippet twins who live the sweet life in the OC. Also not tweeting as of late, but hoping her mom @sbonnin gives them a gentle nudge.

Typical Whippet: Illustrated

A rainy Thursday has Mirabel surfing YouTube for whippet porn. What these videos all have in common is that they nicely illustrate some very typical whippet habits.  She shares a few of her favorites:

THE SPIN-O-RAMA: A spunky whippet shows off his moves, trying to entice his person into a play session. Shove over Gretzky! Whippets have got these darting doodles down to a fine art.

THE ARM KILLER: in this chilling capture, a whippet eats a human arm. OK, not really, but whippets love to play bite, instinctively hunting down moving 'prey' and in a pinch, a person's appendage will suffice.

THE BOOMERANG: Here's a young whippet sprinting back and forth between his Boy and Girl. This positioning often gets a lazy whippet running (ahem, Ribsy).

THE LUNGING LURK: Two whippets on leash demonstrate the slow, sneaky tip-toeing stalk leading up to a full-out charge at the squirrel. Bonus: includes the "Whoa!" of the owner as he's pulled off his feet.

Two Amazing

Here's a Friday warm-and-fuzzy for you. Dominic runs, plays and acts like a typical whippet (although the video says as a greyhound) except for, well, two things: he lost a pair of legs in a car accident. But that never slowed him down. He even has a girlfriend.

The Sheet Disturber

Why whippets are an absolute joy:

World wide whippets

Ribsy's discovered a few more whippet-focused blogs (really, should there be any other kind?) which he has added to his Roll Call so he can continue to get his webby whippet fix anytime. There are two in particular that he'd like to highlight in this post.

First up is Saving for Sesame, a lovely blog by a New York City writer who chronicles the cost of saving up for a second whippet named Sesame - a companion that they've long envisioned for their first whippet C-Biscuit. Quite naturally, life doesn't always skip merrily on the path you plan to take. What zooms up their way is an unexpected bonus - a petite rescue girl named Machu Picchu who quickly steals their hearts. But she's not Sesame. Could there be a third whippet soon?

Another blog that has caught Ribsy's attention is Whippets High on Emotion. He doesn't understand a word of it, but thankfully photos of whippets are universal in their beauty and expression. Throw in a litter of puppies and some cute videos documenting their wobbly moves, and you have a winning whippet formula.

Crazy About Squirrels

Ribsy and Mirabel are transfixed (still and shaking like they always get whenever they see a squirrel) by this video. It's sweet torture. That's because it's about a baby squirrel who's stuck, unable to scale a concrete wall. And ah, those silly, kind human folks who decided to help him out.

Now Mirabel would probably, actually most definitely, not have helped out that would-be wall jumper - although she would have, erm, ended his frustrated efforts in a different sort of way.

Animated Ribsy

Experimenting with some face animation software. Of course Ribsy cooperates as the test subject.

Squirrel Girl

Meet Carrie the baby squirrel. Even Mirabel the huntress has to admit that she's awfully cute. Of course, in real life, it would have naturally, instinctually, been a different verdict.

It's a whippet-chase-squirrel world out there. 

By the way, did you know that there is a Marvel comic character by the very name of Squirrel Girl?
