Loving Rivals

How is it possible that these two whippets can be so loving, sweet, and comfortable with each other at certain times, yet emit behaviors such as the following at others?

- Ribsy snaps at Mirabel if she touches him on the bed
- Mirabel scares Ribsy off the frisbee with a husky, manly "woof"
- Ribsy growls menacingly at Mirabel for daring to steal his new meerkat toy
- Mirabel attacks the slow-eating Ribsy for his dinner

Ribsy and Mirabel are no Romeo and Juliet. But perhaps they are the strongest love/hate relationship in all of whippetdom.

Pop Whippet Quiz

People always remark on how Ribsy and Mirabel look alike, and are surprised when they learn that they're not related whatsoever.

Given that whippets can be all kinds of colors, from jet black to all white, and all brindles and reds and greys and blues in between, it really is remarkable that Ribsy and Mirabel appear to be cut from the same mould.

Sunshine Squirrel

Sometimes Ribsy and Mirabel like to have a little company when then go sunning in the backyard.

Squirrel helps break the competitive tension between Ribsy and pesky sister. Or stir them up crazy, depending on their moods.

Today, Squirrel is a comforting friend.

Ain't too proud to beg

Mirabel would like to go on the Snippets record that she does not beg. This is proof.

How big can those round eyes go? Hmm, it's not working. Time to switch up positions and apply a bit more pressure. Literally.

Blur: The speed of change

Although Girl still can't see as well as a whippet, she can now at least tell who's who in the morning. Ribsy and Mirabel are a bit fuzzy with her new unaided eyes, but on the whole, she can see so much better. She'll spare you the traumatic details of the surgery, and will just say that she's glad it's done with!
