Lightning Fast

Niles couldn't believe his eyes. When Ribsy, Mirabel and Daphne get together, they can really run - so fast that Girl  was unable to snap a photo of the pack gunning through the grass. They managed to fit in a quick dash around the park before a menacing thunderstorm rolled in.

Staycation

The pack jumped on the staycation craze and decided to spend quality time enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the surrounding environs instead of driving hours and hours on end on expensive tanks of gas.

First up was St. Jacobs on Saturday, a destination well-known to Ribsy. Mirabel was remarkably well-behaved at the market. Boy and Girl stocked up on fiddleheads, asparagus, apple cider, summer sausage, and homemade pecan pie for a decadent feast that night.

Then they explored a trail along the Grand River, in Cambridge.

Today, they checked out the Aberfoyle Antiques Market, about a half hour drive away. A dog-friendly (pooches are allowed on leash, and are even given a treat when they come in) and sunny and chock-a-block packed atmosphere led to plenty of hours spent perusing the furniture and collectibles, only to come home with a sunburn to show for the efforts.

Coat Weather

It barely got up to 10 degrees these past couple of days (well below the normal of 20), so the pack, naturally, is thinking 'coats...must get coats...' While Mirabel is trying to decide on the colour of her forthcoming Chilly Dogs coat, Boy told Girl about this fetching spring coat at Smoking Lily, a fashion standout from Victoria.

Closer

Mirabel leans in for a snuggle with Ribsy. To Girl's relief they are getting along very well...especially when it comes to tugging her off her feet to give chase after a squirrel.

Remembering Victoria

Hey Mirabel - as you and I are hunkering inside the house on this dismal rainy Sunday during the Victoria Day long weekend, I thought you should know what life was like in my first home. You see, I was born in Victoria, which is far, far away I think. Girl said Boy is there right now, and it's as beautiful as he remembered. He rented a scooter and rode past both my puppyhood home and my grandma Linda's home, which has been stunningly redone. Meanwhile, nothing's really changed at the little house. All of Boy's landscaping and handiwork is well intact, and around the block now is a cute modern coffee shop. Boy felt sad seeing the house, and I know why. It was because I was raised there - so many  memories. Chewed up couches, pooed-on floors, knocked down baby gates, stolen underwear, dug-up holes for barfy bones. But also: dizzying laps around the spacious backyard, sunning on the deck, begging for barbecued goodness, cozy nights by the fireplace, walks in the charming streets, play pals at the local park, and lots and lots of camping trips.

Victoria, I miss you.

Give it up for...Niles and the Whippets!

Opening up with a slightly growly number, followed by some fast beats, slow sniffers, tricky treats, and an encore packed with posing, pulling  and pooing!

Niles was backed up by his main girl Daphne, the ever-steady Ribsy, and the live wire Mirabel - who incidentally has already checked herself in for some doggy obedience rehab.

Daphne, picture above with her new toy, and perched on Niles' throne, is a real sweet little girl. It's hard to believe that she and Mirabel came from the same womb!

Great whippet minds think alike

Just like his blog dog pal Ribsy, Bailey seeks out spots of sunshine in the house whenever possible. Given Calgary's wacky weather as of late, can you really blame him?

Hello Daphne!

Introducing Mirabel's littermate Daphne! Congratulations to Niles on his new little sister.

 Daphne, seen here checking out the fish in her new backyard, made the journey from New Jersey to Hamilton today. Mirabel, who's off getting lady surgery today, will be back tomorrow, and she and Ribsy will get to meet the newest whippet on the block on Wednesday.
