A long delayed pictoral of Ribsy's camping weekend. Pictures at left are from French Beach Provincial Park. This park, by the way, didn't even make the top 50 list in a local book ranking the best dog walks on Southern Vancouver Island. "A travesty!" thought Ribsy. He can't wait to get back there to rip through the soft sand and dance daintily on the smooth pebbles. 4/5 ribs.
What next? thought Ribsy, catching a breather in the camper.

Port Renfrew! Best known for being the start (or end) of the West Coast Trail, the town was a big hit with Ribsy. With an expansive, empty, tidal-water filled beach just off the main strip by San Juan Bay, Ribsy had one thought on his mind: Let's RUNNNNNNNNNNN. Watch a clip here.

A couple of more pictures from Port Renfrew. Only Ribsy took up the sign's offer. Overall, a definite 5/5 ribs!!

Then it was off to surfers' paradise Sombrio Beach, part of the Juan de Fuca trail/provincial park. 2.5/5 ribs for Ribsy, due to the scary suspension bridge and the super muddy trail.

The next morning, Ribsy romped one last time along the shores of French Beach. He was a little more courageous than the previous day, since it was low tide and low tide's not as scary.

The route home featured an pit stop at the Sooke Potholes. Doggy-wise, he spotted a border collie enjoying the swimming hole with his human pack, but he's not so sure if dogs really are allowed there. If they are, this is a heavenly spot for the swimming canine crowd! 3/5 ribs for Ribsy.

The trip made one final jaunt out to East Sooke, and a delightful though eerie discovery of Silver Spray, a huge lifestyle community that was being developed and is now mired in red tape. The deserted cranes, the gates that lead nowhere, the empty structures - it's easy to imagine the ambition that went behind it, but it's hard to picture the beauty of this southwestern tip of Vancouver Island remaining intact and unspoiled - if and when it's finally completed.

Also makes for a nice motorcycle destination, as two Harleys and a Moto Guzzi found out. On the doggy scale, there wasn't much Ribsy could get in trouble with, other than potentially falling off the edge. But as one Grad '05 teenager nicely warned in spray paint, Ribsy proceeded with caution. 3.5 / 5 ribs for Ribsy.
It's knackering ranking all these doggy camp spots in one single weekend!!
